This is a one year course to enhance the knowledge and skills of persons wanting a career in an exercise or fitness work area. This course leads to a Level 5 award. Class based tuition is supplemented by the student’s own learning at home or in the college computer rooms, working in small groups outside of class time and attendance at tutorials. Work placement is a necessary part of this course.
Entrants should be of Leaving Certificate or QQI level 4 standard or equivalent. However, students who do not possess the educational requirements but who have a particular interest or experience in this work area will be considered. Mature students without formal qualifications are welcome.

• Sports Anatomy and Physiology
• Safety and health at work
• Leisure Facility Operations
• Coaching modules
• Swedish Massage
A registration fee of 200 Euros is payable by all entrants to plc courses in Ireland. Those with a medical card, Back to Education Allowance, or a maintenance grant do not have to pay this registration fee. Maintenance grants or Back to Education allowances are available for eligible students. A student service charge of €75 is payable by all students.
Work experience is an integral element of this course as this is a work based programme. Participants are required to attend work experience one day every week in a relevant vocational setting.
Upon successful completion of this course participants will be awarded a QQI Level 5 certificate in Sports Recreation and Exercise . Course assessment is based on a mixture of continuous assessment and examination.
QQI certification is a nationally recognised Award. Successful participants can apply for employment in a variety of leisure and exercise organisations.
